Joining forces with Swiss DJ Extasia and frequent collaborator Zach Adam, New York City-based Rony G. uses her impressive vocal range to bring the new “Light Beams” to life. Constructed as an electro-dance/pop track, the independent release showcases Extasia’s seemingly effortless ability to lift listeners to their feet for a pulsating trip to the dancefloor while Rony serenades and commands attention with a performance perfect for the atmospheric journey.
“Light Beams” details a love that incredibly knows no ends or boundaries, just like a ray of light cutting through the smoke and darkness. Supported by euphoric production, the vocalist is able to maneuver through instrumental change-ups and a chorus that kicks into high gear while still allowing the written material to come off as endearing and emotive. Sonically, all three artists involved sound to be in tune, delivering a track that sparkles bright from beginning to end.
When it comes to the lyrical content, some of the romantic metaphors could be viewed as tried and true, but when they are accompanied by a frenzied beat, they work better than ever. “When I see you, you make the world feel right, and my blood’s racing at the speed of light, you and I we are shooting stars at night, we are light beams,” Rony G. belts on the song’s hook before she hands over the reins to Extasia and gets lost in a shimmering, techno breakdown.
“'Light Beams' is about being free to shine bright and follow your desires, dreams, and passions” says the song’s writer and composer Zach Adam. “I wrote it to be a ray of hope for anyone who’s in a dark place, to remind them there’s more to come, the light is about to shine.”
Given the 80s-inspired, camp pop of XELLE, the new “Light Beams” release finds Rony G. in exciting, uncharted territory. Her musical surroundings have become serious and tense, and her performance is now front-and-center, when at times, it felt as if she was playing a supporting act in the past. The featured spot is a move in the right direction, hinting at the possibilities of what a planned out solo career could look like.
To go with the explosive, commendable dance release, a dark and moody accompanying music video was also shared this week. Simple yet effective, the "Light Beams" visual finds Rony G. wandering around aimlessly, apparently on the search for her other half. Decked in a fabulous winter ensemble, paired with a fiery red hair-do, the video is basically just close up glamour shots of the vocalist... but no one is really complaining. It's a striking companion piece.
