It pays to shop around.
I am just making the point that today I noticed an old issue of ELLE (December 2011) pushed to the front of the display and the newer copy at the back. Not only that, but the shop had plastered a selling price of €7.88 on the front of it!!!!
HOW?
I have the latest issue which my mom got for me -since I can't walk - and she paid €5.88 which is the usual price for the magazine. I am shocked that the newsagent were
a) blatantly trying to sell off a few of the older copies while they still could
b) charging so much for it!
I would mention the shop but its deep in the arse of the country so I don't think anyone cares. I know I've walked out of shops which I feel are charging too much for magazines. Even with the copy of ELLE that I bought, the suggested retail price is £3.80 which translates to €4.60 for us. So there is a mark up which is a result of tax and the newsagents trying to make a profit. Fair enough - but to charge nearly €8 for the same magazine that you can see on the stands for €5.88 is a joke.
