Selfridges 50s style exhibition

I managed to pop in to Selfridges to have a look at their 50s style exhibition. It was amazing. I mean the time, effort and display was incredible.
The exhibition was launched to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee and also to celebrate all the other cool stuff going on in London this summer. I was mad impressed! While the exhibition is very dark - so sorry if the photos seem a little dark too. It was a powerful display of fashion from one of the more stylish decades.

It also serves a sad reminder that we no longer dress like this. Well, I'm not sure how practical the many skirts of the above dress are when your tripping down Grafton Street on a rainy Tuesday morning but I mean the style. If you look at the effort, the styling and the fact that all women wore hats when leaving the house - it makes you sad to look at those who believe juicy couture tracksuits and UGG boots are acceptable outdoor fashion. I wish I could have lived in an era when everyone dressed this way.

There were some vintage Vogues on display as well!!! I was dying to get stuck into these but sadly they were behind glass so the like of me can't get in and ruffle the pages!
LOOK AT THE 50S ILLUSTRATION AND DESIGN!!!! I LOVE looking at old Vogues. I almost bought a stack of them from the 80s in Camden that week as well.
I am not sure how long the exhibition is on for - but if you get a chance to pop in and have a look - do. Why not finish off the day with a trip to the roof cafe as well? I might also add that Selfridges have one of the best fashion book shops I have ever been in. I know people go on and on about the shoe galleries but to me, Selfridges is not complete without a trip to the bookshop.  Mind you, if you didn't see the state of my room then scroll down to the below post on my bedroom and you'll understand why......

What I liked about the exhibition was this....the instructions on each piece which also displayed a price for each dress or coat. Personally, I think the large 50s coat in grey was my favorite from the whole collection.
Sigh.......
