Are you ever just in the mood to be classy?
You know, Mad Men style with cocktail dresses and cocktail parties and , well cocktails...
That's how I was feeling at the end of last week, so my roommate Nick and I decided to make drinks.
First off, to make good cocktails you need lots and lots of ice.
We decided to make a riff on whiskey sours, so we grabbed some Jack, lots of lemons, and simple syrup.
Fill your shaker with lots more ice, and add whiskey, lemon juice and simple syrup,
Then shake shake shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker is nice and frosty.
Strain your whiskey sour into a rocks glass filled with ice, and here comes the twist...
Take some fruity red wine and float it on top of the sour using the back of a spoon.
Clearly my red wine was too dense because it refused to float on top and instead sunk to the bottom, but it's still pretty.
And damn did it taste good. I am a whiskey fan as it is, but with the fruity red wine mixed in this cocktail was awesome! Fruity, tangy and smooth from the bourbon, a New York Sour is the perfect way to start a classy evening.
The weekend's getting closer, so keep this one in mind. Have a great rest of the week everybody,
Enjoy!

New York Sour
from Bon Appetit
- Combine 2 ounces rye or bourbon whiskey,1 ounce fresh lemon juice, and 1 ounce simple syrup in a cocktail shaker.Fill with ice, cover, and shake until outside of shaker is frosty, about 30 seconds.Strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.Gently pour 1/2 ounce fruity red wine (such as Shiraz or Malbec) over the back of a spoon held just above the drink's surface so wine floats on top.
